What is happening to the beach front
Redevelopment of the Surfers Paradise foreshore will reconnect the heart of Surfers Paradise with the beach, creating a unique open space that delivers environmental, social and economic benefits for the city.
Background information
In 2007, Gold Coast City Council endorsed the Surfers Paradise Foreshore Masterplan which focuses on transforming the foreshore from its current state to a heavily used urban plaza that links with park areas.
In 2009 Council endorsed the Surfers Paradise foreshore redevelopment as part of a $90 million economic stimulus package which will provide employment opportunities to Gold Coast workers as well as providing much needed infrastructure for the city.
In September 2009, Council appointed Abigroup Contractors Pty Ltd as the Managing Contractor to undertake the redevelopment of Surfers Paradise's Foreshore.
